Cool Kids Sleeping Bags for Camping

By Martie

You will need some kids sleeping bags for camping if you are going to embark on that camping trip with your children.

kids sleeping bags for camping

For those families who are new to camping and want to purchase your equipment slowly overtime starting with the basics, they often make the mistake of purchasing full size sleeping bags for their smaller children.

They think that they will save money by not having to replace a sleeping bag their child has outgrown.

However, putting your toddler, or young school age child into an adult sleeping bag while camping may prove to be dangerous and even frightening to your child.

If your child works their way down into the sleeping bag in their sleep and then wakes up feeling trapped they may panic and could frighten you to death.

And not to mention that they could actually harm themselves trying to get out the bag in the darkened tent.

Purchasing a sleeping bag that is close to your child’s size will allow them and you to sleep more comfortably.

Once outgrown, these sleeping bags have a good resale value depending on their condition.

To help ensure that you find the right kids sleeping bags for camping, we’d like to recommend the following:

Camping Sleeping Bags for Toddlers

Our youngest son had his first camping experience when he was only a month old. Our other children had already been experienced camping by this time, although some were still toddlers.

Finding sleeping bags for toddlers can be extremely difficult. This is because there are only a few real options for children between the ages of 1 and 3.

However, we did find one sleeping bag that we feel is not only suitable, but actually great for your toddler.

Baby Deedee Sleep Nest Sleeping Bag

Baby Deedee Sleep Nest Baby Sleeping Bag, Khaki/Lime Green, Large (18-36 Months)Baby Deedee Sleep Nest Baby Sleeping Bag, Khaki/Lime Green, Large (18-36 Months)The Baby Deedee Sleep Nest Sleeping Bag is perfect for camping in temperatures that don’t tend to get lower than 68 degrees Fahrenheit during the night.

This Khaki and lime green sleep nest sleeping bag fits your baby like a second pair of pajamas. Thus leaving his head and arms free and allowing him to move comfortably during his sleep.

Made of 75% cotton and 25% polyester this sleep nest can be used with a long sleeved cotton onesie on those warm nights of camping.

It can also be paired with a heavy duty pair of footy pajamas for slightly cooler nights.

This toddler sleeping bag works best if you bring along a playpen for your toddler to sleep in.

But will work well with a sleep mat that is close to the ground, if your child doesn’t do a lot of rolling at night.

Camping Sleeping Bags for Kids Who are Older

Once your child reaches about 4 years old, he is going to want a sleeping bag just like mommy or daddy has.

However a full size adult bag is still a bit too big for kids that are older than toddlers. Better still there are some great bags that can grow with them for at least a couple of years.

Kelty Big Dipper 30 Degree Kids Sleeping Bag

Kelty Big Dipper 30 Degree Kids Sleeping Bag - PurpleKelty Big Dipper 30 Degree Kids Sleeping Bag – PurpleThe Kelty Big Dipper 30 Degree Kids Sleeping Bag is great for children starting at age 4 and lasting until the child is 5 foot tall or so.

This well constructed sleeping bag has a zipper extension so the bag can be about foot longer or shorter.

The full length side zipper is really sturdy and is easy for kids to zip and unzip. This makes getting in and out of the bag on their own simple and easy.

Best of all, this sleeping bag will keep your child warm even on those colder rainy nights.

It is also ideal if you are camping in the mountains or desert where temperatures can be cold at night.

Remember temperatures at these places drop at night even during the summer months.

In addition, since this sleeping bag is made along the same design as most adults bags your child will feel all grown up when using it.

I really liked a couple of the kids sleeping bags I found here. Christmas is coming up so I am definitely going to revisit this and find something cute for my niece who is going on her first sleepover soon.
